Jane Edgington and Gill Cotton have beaten more than a few men at their favourite game in recent years, and now take on the mighty challenge of driving over half way round the World, a route with several deserts, more than one jungle, packing in 10,000 miles inside a month, in a 25-year-old British Leyland car made in Oxford, originally only designed for the school-run, shopping trips, and perhaps the odd weekend rally.
Jane and Gill are up against stiff competition – there are Jeeps, Toyotas and a Land Rover in the 4×4 class also eager for a top-ten overall placing, some serious contenders in the Classic Class with the likes of Mercedes and Peugeots, and in her 1600cc class, three other MGs, all ZRs, with former British Endurance Rally champion Owen Turner navigated by Matt Fowle, who won the first Lombard Revival in 2004, Paul Unwin who rallied the World Cup Rally to Dakar…and two other ladies, Rachel Vestey and Suzy Harvey, who won the Ladies prize on the Peking Paris last year.
Jayne and Gill are sponsored by The Oxford Shirt Company of Burford, and Tony Fowkes Automobiles of Park Royal, London.
